The video is in the works. Until then, the guide will get you there.
Step-by-step guide
Where to find the Website page
In the top menu bar, click ' (Settings)".
The Settings menu opens on the left. Choose "Website" there.
The Website page opens.
One thing up front, this is all a form
The same thing applies here as on the other settings pages. The whole thing is a simple form. In this case one with a single field, even. You enter your website address, and nothing takes effect until you click "Save".
In practice that means: type in a new website address, leave the page without saving, and the old entry is back. That is how it is built. So enter it first, then one click on "Save", done.
Adding your website
There is nothing beyond this one field:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| URL | The full address of your website, for example https://www.example.com. |
Three rules so it works on the first try:
- The address has to start with
https://, not withhttp://. Trustlytics only accepts secure addresses. That protects you and your visitors. - Enter the complete address, exactly like in the example
https://www.example.com. - If an address is already stored, it is sitting in the field. You simply overwrite it.
Then click "Save".
Changing the website address
If you change the website address here, say because you moved to a new domain, there is a second step you must not forget. You have to copy your tracking code again afterward and add it to the new website.
The reason is simple. The tracking code contains your website address. If the address changes, the old code no longer fits. And without the updated code, no new visits get counted. Your reporting would just stand still, and you often notice that only days later. So do it right away.
Here is how to go about it:
- Enter the new address here and save.
- Switch to the "Tracking code" menu item.
- Copy the code shown there.
- Add the code to your new website. Best to replace the old code while you are at it.
What happens to my numbers so far?
Now the part many people overlook, and it really matters. The numbers you have collected so far stay and blend in with the data from the new address. If you simply change the address here, you are not starting from zero. Your reporting still shows the old visits from the previous website, and the new ones are just added on top.
That is exactly right if it stays the same website. A pure domain move from old.com to new.com, for example, with the same content and the same visitors. In that case, you do want the story to continue without gaps.
Not sure which route is the right one? Ask support quickly before you change anything. Two minutes of asking is affordable, a blended set of statistics can hardly be untangled after the fact.
Good to know
Common questions
Why does the address have to start with https://?
Because Trustlytics only accepts secure connections. http:// without the "s" is the unencrypted version. Practically every serious website runs on https:// these days. If yours still says http://, that is usually a sign that something is off with your website.
I changed the address, but no new visits are being counted. Why?
Most likely because the tracking code has not been added again. After an address change, the old code no longer fits. Copy the current code under "Tracking code" and add it to the new website.
Can I analyze several websites in one account?
No. One subscription covers one website. If you want to measure a second website, take out another subscription for it. That way the numbers for the two websites also stay cleanly separated, which is the better route for your reporting anyway.
I see a message saying my domain is already registered. Now what?
That message shows up when the address is already stored with another Trustlytics account. If the domain belongs to you, get in touch with support. We will look into it.
Do I lose my old numbers if I change the address?
No. Your numbers so far stay and keep running together with the new ones. If you would rather have cleanly separated statistics for a completely different website, you are better off starting with a new account. When in doubt, ask support quickly.
Do I have to include "www"?
Enter the address the way your visitors actually call it up. If your website runs on www.example.com, the "www" belongs there. If it opens without, leave it off. When in doubt, look at your browser bar, the right version is right there.
Where do I find the address currently stored?
Right here. As soon as you open the page, your saved address is in the input field. If you only want to take a look, change nothing and simply leave the page again.
